Microsoft Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) enables kernel-mode device drivers and system firmware to expose WMI objects for configuration and instrumentation. This paper describes the default security permissions for kernel WMI objects on Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and Microsoft Windows Vista and how system manufacturers and BIOS developers can change the security permissions during device installation.
