As opensource web portal and content management solutions mature, they are becoming more and more interesting for enterprise deployments. This leaves the question: Which system should one take for implementation? Most importantly, when making a decision for a system, make sure to understand the organizational needs and drivers. If operational aspects play a huge role in the decision to deploy one of these systems, then a Content Management solution may be the best choice. If the motivation is to reduce the time necessary to get content out to the public or internally, then the Content Management functionality may only introduce unnecessary complexity and a plain Web Portal solution is the better option.
