DSS UK Limited specialises in the servicing and support of digital and electromechanical hardware. To perform this function it uses field service engineers based throughout the UK. Traditionally, the field service engineers employed by DSS spent a considerable amount of time communicating by mobile phone with their headquarters between printer servicing calls. This was time-consuming and expensive, and DSS was keen to find ways of simultaneously cutting costs and increasing efficiency. DSS uses an application called OfficeLive, which was supplied by their telecommunications partner Vodafone to perform this task. OfficeLive is supplied with Microsoft Mobile Information Server, and is able to automatically generate SMS messages for Microsoft Outlook email and Calendar changes.
