Inspectors for mortgage field service firm Safeguard Properties used laptop computers, Palm Pilot handheld computers, and paper forms to complete property inspections in the field, which meant rekeying data and maintaining multiple applications. To speed the process, Safeguard replaced the system with a solution based on the Microsoft .NET Compact Framework and Web services running on Pocket PCs with Windows Mobile 2003 software. The outcome: Turnaround time for inspection results has decreased by 21 percent, and the time it takes for staff to review results and conduct follow-up is down by 65 percent.
