Testing an application is a critical part of software development that implies user interactions - whether they are real, with someone actually using the application, or faked, using another piece of software to simulate the workload. With the advent of the Java Platform, Enterprise Edition (Java EE), and web applications, workload generation has become more problematic. Testing these types of applications requires the user to deploy complex software architectures and simulate the activity of dozens, if not hundreds, of simultaneous users. This paper presents two open source-based tools that can help to generate workloads for the enterprise application: SLAMD Distributed Load Generation Engine and Sun Java Studio Enterprise software.
