A few years ago, a textile plant employing about 600 workers closed and moved to Honduras and St. Martinville lost a major employer. The junior high school social studies teacher and the district technology coordinator for St. Martin Parish School Board, recalls that the loss of the plant was a major blow. This was right around the time the grant for the Microsoft Office site licenses came through. The teacher spent a lot of time pushing the school board to consider adopting Microsoft Office, and they were just starting to integrate it into their curriculum.
