The IT Evolution Model is meant to be used as a suggestive model for implementing the best practices for service management. The model should be used as a tool for starting a dialogue inside the IT organization to determine the current level of maturity and the desired stage of evolution. Each stage is characterized by a set of processes for delivering best practices, using both de facto standards such as ITIL, and customers' experience. Almost without exception, one stage must be completed successfully before the benefits of the next stage can be realized. The processes described in this model can be and should be modified the fit the exact needs of individual IT organizations.
