As the leading global pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and plastics business, the Solvay Group wanted a new intranet solution to provide improvements in messaging and collaboration. Traditionally a company that used SAP and Microsoft software, Solvay looked more widely for the best technology on which to base its new project. Solvay chose Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 for the collaboration and document management solution, complemented by Microsoft Content Management Server (MCMS) 2002. The company also decided to run SAP Enterprise Portal 6.0 (SAP EP6) to Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and Microsoft SQL Server 2000. The excellent business partnership between Microsoft and HP has ensured an integrated server environment, which will cost far less to maintain than the previous dispersed environment.
