Astrakhan State Technical University (ASTU) offers professional training programmes to 10,000 graduate and post-graduate students in Astrakhan, Russia. During the last few years, the university has developed online learning resources, but these could no longer meet the requirements of professors or students effectively. Using the previous system, it was difficult to publish tests and learning materials or to monitor students' progress effectively. To address these issues, ASTU deployed the Microsoft Learning Gateway. This enhances communications between professors and students, supports self-learning and self-testing, and helps to monitor students' academic achievements. Multi-media learning resources and tests are uploaded to the system quickly and students can access materials using a simple, intuitive interface.
