With origins that date to the 18th century, Portugal's world-renowned University of Porto School of Engineering is one of the most respected engineering schools in Europe. The university wanted to securely manage information for more 30,000 students and 3,000 faculty across 13 campuses and develop a data infrastructure that is highly scalable, available, and secure. The university wanted to improve IT performance while lowering costs. The university created a highly scalable, reliable, and secure data infrastructure for the school of engineering with Oracle technology, including Oracle Database 10g Release 2, Oracle Real Application Clusters, and Oracle Application Server 10g information, and more. They deployed the infrastructure on Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9, to ensure scalability and reduce hardware costs.
