The majority of mission-critical data resides in DB2 databases and host files systems, such as mainframe VSAM data sets and the AS/400 physical files. Typically, enterprise developers write a custom COBOL CICS or AS/400 RPG program to read or write this vital data. The time that it takes to develop these host programs can hamper enterprise IT roll-out of new solutions in a timely manner. Microsoft Host Integration Server 2004 offers data providers for enterprise developers to rapidly develop new data integration solutions, using Visual Studio .NET 2000.
