Korean air carrier Asiana Airlines and its IT integrator, sister company Asiana IDT, wished to evaluate using Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) technology for Asiana Airlines' baggage handling in a demonstration project. The RFID technology chosen needed to be integrated into a cost-effective, reliable, and scalable system that could handle the demonstration project and expand if successful. Asiana IDT selected BEA WebLogic Server 8.1 and BEA WebLogic Workshop running on Intel-based servers for dependable performance and flexibility. The resulting reliable, standards-based system was also considered ideal for adaptability and scalability.
