The Oregon Department of Education provides leadership in the areas of curriculum, improvement efforts, and testing for Oregon public schools. The department's Information Technology (IT) is critical to this mission. However, the department's IT staff was spending too much time managing the complex network, and the system didn't offer desired features such as storage quota management. Network downtime and unsolicited e-mail messages also hindered worker productivity. The Oregon Department of Education is in the process of moving its IT system from Microsoft Windows 2000 Server to Microsoft Windows Server 2003. With the improved Microsoft Office Outlook Web Access (OWA), a component of Exchange Server 2003, workers can now use the spelling checker and access their contacts when they're out of the office.
