When Towers Perrin sought to expand its healthcare consultancy from enterprise clients to midmarket companies, it needed a tool to offer high-quality analysis at a lower price point. Towers Perrin contacted Thomson Medstat, a healthcare information partner. Medstat, also wanting to reach midsize employers, developed Healthcare Diagnostic, a tool based on Microsoft SQL Server 2000 data warehousing and analysis capabilities. The tool helps Towers Perrin cut healthcare cost increases by 15 percent for the typical client, saving that client an average of U.S.$1.5 million per year. The tool cuts the time for data gathering and reporting from four months to six weeks, giving consultants more time for the analysis and recommendations that are the greatest value to clients.
