The authors have developed a framework for Web-based GIS/database applications which allow users to insert, update, delete, and query data with a map interface displayed by Web browsers. The framework was designed so that a Web-based GIS application that uses ArcIMS as a map server can be easily created, customized, and maintained. In order to achieve this goal, the authors have created the framework as a collection of ASP.NET custom server controls. In creating a Web-based GIS application, instances of the custom server controls can be picked and placed on ASP.NET Web pages like standard Web controls.
