Once upon a time, content management technology made sense only for big business, big institutions, and big government. And once upon a time, IBM DB2 Content Manager required a large user base, highly-technical managers, and voluminous budgets. The capabilities that automated mega-corporations in the past now bring similar success to Small- and Medium-sized Businesses (SMB), institutions, and units of government. Today's smaller-but-wiser organizations win in the local-to-world marketplace by employing the same technological solutions as the giants. The obstacles that in the past discouraged SMBs from automating content management have shrunk. From a business perspective, that is a good because the need for the technologies collected in IBM DB2 Content Manager never have been needed more.
