The Nagios system monitor is an open source project that aims to provide an easy tool for monitoring computer systems remotely. It uses a plug-in architecture that allows great flexibility and customization and gives a system administrator the ability to add a plug-in to monitor anything that can be automated by scripting. Nagios also comes with a default set of plug-ins that cover the most commonly checked functions such as the ability to ping a particular server. By completing the steps in this paper, reader will install the IBM DB2 Universal DataBase (DB2 UDB) plug-in for Nagios running on the Linux platform.
