Pier 1's business is expanding extremely rapidly, and as a result, so has the company's data storage needs. The IT organization was faced with the monumental task of relocating its central data center from the company's old location to the new 20-story corporate headquarters near downtown Fort Worth. While evaluating its need for new SAN technology, Pier 1 found that not only could the Cisco 9000 Series of multilayer switches and directors provide additional functionality for the future, it could help immediately with the data center move. Pier 1's goals for its new SAN included increasing scalability to accommodate data growth, improving reliability by creating additional redundancy, and optimizing disaster recovery capabilities.
