This paper presents two essential aspects related to the specification of Quality of Service (QoS) in service oriented architectures. Firstly an overview is presented of the concepts and requirements that a language for the specification of QoS agreements (Service Level Agreements, or SLAs) must address, and how the WSLA language supports them. The paper concentrates on the components that an SLA language should have, and do not address other issues of the SLA life cycle such as negotiation, provisioning and monitoring. Secondly a work-in-progress is described which can provide statistical estimates of multiple dimensions of behaviour of composite services, a facility which will be essential when choosing services and adjusting workflows in order to satisfy SLA requirements.
