For UK shoppers, The John Lewis Partnership is a favourite retailer, renowned for its focus on both high quality and value. Nationwide, the company has 26 department stores plus 136 Waitrose food stores situated mainly in central and southern England. The company wanted to minimise the risk of customer dissatisfaction and revenue loss resulting from any major system failures. To greatly increase systems availability and limit data loss to near zero in the event of a disaster, IBM built and tested a remote disaster recovery solution based on IBM's XRC (eXtended Remote Copy) technology.
