The US city of Beverly Hills has 35,000 residents and over 200,000 daily commuters, shoppers and tourists and its IT infrastructure supports critical systems such as wireless network access in emergency vehicles and 911 emergency response calls. In addition support for non-critical systems such as the civic website, library catalogue and parks and recreation data is needed. The city required a reliable disaster recovery plan to decentralise critical data and enable lost data to be restored more quickly in the event of downtime. McDATA identified the city's critical and non-critical systems, classified its data and recommended that a second data centre be established, with the infrastructure split and moved between the sites.
