With the disk and tape industries both ostensibly consolidating and simultaneously evolving as fast as they ever have, exciting times are just ahead. Customers are demanding solutions that reduce complexity while increasing functionality and meeting increasingly complex requirements. Can it be done? Storage vendors are already tackling this challenge at the enterprise level by layering integrated application and content management software onto their more traditional storage hardware and software offerings. In the end, SMB customers will without a doubt have access to better tools at better prices than before. Backup and recovery is not dead, nor will it be any time soon. It's just changing.
