B&Q's 330-plus UK stores offer customers in excess of 45,000 different home improvement and garden products. Keeping track of the stock levels of these products, and producing the price labels are just two of the functions performed by the in-store servers. As each store has only one server, there is no on-site provision for failure should the whole machine malfunction or be damaged, for example, by a fire of flood. Therefore to guarantee the continued operation of its stores, it is essential that B&Q has a comprehensive disaster recovery plan in place for its network of store servers. For the last six years, this disaster recovery service has been provided by Computacenter.
