When Surrey County Council began its foray into e-government, it identified the need for an upgrade of its non-standardised desktop environment. In addition to its e-government objectives, the council also wanted to reduce the total cost of ownership of the infrastructure. A lack of internal resources led Surrey County Council to bring in Computacenter to help implement the upgrade, which involved both hardware, the operating system and applications, across 350 sites.
