When Zeneca Group PLC of the UK combined forces with Astra AB of Sweden to form AstraZeneca, one of the company's first priorities was to standardise IT infrastructure at its sites around the world. Following the merger in 1999 from which AstraZeneca was formed, the company began the long task of integrating the two separate businesses. One area that required immediate attention was the companies' disparate IT systems. When the magnitude of the roll-out at Charnwood became clear, the company realised they would need the help of an experienced external partner. Computacenter was called in, who already had a long-term relationship with this research site, providing technical support and supplying IT equipment.
