Wide spread acceptance of the principles in the 3GPP IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) are nearing a level that would indicate the communications industry is close to reaching a defacto convergence architecture. The MSF R2 architecture, demonstrated in GMI2004, was already closely aligned to the IMS architectural approach and the MSF will take the final steps to rationalize with IMS and begin demonstrating IMS solutions in 2005. This rationalization will be bi-directional where the MSF will adopt best practices from 3GPP IMS as well as other organizations, such as ETSI and ATIS, who have been working to apply IMS to converged architectures.
