Barry University, a top-ranked academic institution in South Florida, relies on state-of-the-art communications to link 10 schools and faculty with nearly 8,500 students. Continual expansion at the Miami Shores campus created the need to extend the campus LAN to encompass two additional buildings so that staff and students could access different course files and school services. The company needed greater bandwidth and improved performance to meet the growing connectivity requirements. They compared the Proxim WLAN bridge to an optical wireless product from LightPointe Communications. Based on Free-Space Optics (FSO) technology, the LightPointe FlightLite FL155 offered improved performance at a much more appealing price point and hence the company selected the same as their solution.
