The time pressures experienced by professionals in the healthcare industry have always hampered managers' efforts to deliver effective training. However, one of the UK's leading hospital trusts has re-structured the way lifesaving skills and information are provided to its staff by using technology, and it is already reaping the benefits. Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals Trust manages three hospitals and a number of clinics supporting 11,000 staff. One of the challenges it faced was how to provide effective training that was flexible enough to fit around the irregular shift patterns of its health care professionals. It became clear that alternatives to classroom-based teaching had to be found and to that end, the Trust opted to trial an e-learning solution from Macromedia.
