Because daily and even hourly variations in temperature can affect the shelf life of Ballantine's products, the company was quick to realize that being an early adopter of Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) technology would both enhance its relationships with key retail customers initiating RFID pilots and revolutionize its ability to track product movement throughout the supply chain. To get a better idea of the true value of the technology, the company decided to proactively participate in pilot RFID programs with several of its customers. After a thorough evaluation of RFID suppliers, Ballantine discovered that Manhattan Associates was one of only a handful of vendors that would enable them to leverage a single integrated source for their RFID requirements.
