Dell PowerEdge servers using dual core Intel Xeon processors provide new levels of performance for customers. The doubling of processing cores does not provide a doubling of performance. In order to measure the amount of performance gain in a VMWare ESX virtualized environment, three different application workloads were run on the Dell PowerEdge 2850 with both single core and dual core processors. The results showed a gain in performance of 28% to 51% percent. By measuring this performance gain on these three example workloads, customers have a guide for the amount of performance gain they can expect when moving to dual core Intel Xeon processors in a VMware ESX server environment.
