This whitepaper will describe the challenges faced by executive management and the challenges faced by IT in response to ever-changing business needs. Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) is proclaimed to be a panacea for business challenges and has often been implemented as a reaction to these challenges without consideration for its appropriate place as a corporate strategy. SOA is an integral part of corporate governance and must be considered a new paradigm for architecting business solutions. But, the layers of abstraction introduced by SOA pushes IT closer to the business processes and farther from the applications, effectively obscuring the IT infrastructure from the architects.
