WiFi or Wireless Fidelity refers to the technology surrounding the radio transmission of internet protocol data from an internet connection wirelessly to a host computer. Most often the internet connection is a higher speed one such as satellite, DSL or cable rather than slower dial-up connections. WiFi is an emerging technology that showed substantial signs of growth, in particular, in 2003. The prospects for continued growth are also substantial for 2004. Both businesses and consumers have adopted WiFi for a variety of reasons including cost savings and convenience. This paper will focus on the adoption of WiFi for the home consumer and describe some of the important considerations when deciding to implement it.
