DreamWorks Animation is the studio behind such animated blockbusters as Shrek, Shrek 2, Madagascar and Shark Tale. Its former parent company DreamWorks SKG was founded in 1994. In 2005, DreamWorks Animation's Technology team needed to expand their render farm to handle production of Over the Hedge, a much anticipated animated feature film coming out May 19, 2006. The goal was to get more compute power, but they were wary of the power requirements and heat that would accompany the denser server environment. The Technology department opted to upgrade their render farm with 336 HP ProLiant DL145 G2 servers and is expecting to replace more of their existing servers with additional HP ProLiant DL145 servers in the second quarter of 2006.
