Regulated by air traffic law, DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH (DFS) directs and controls air traffic and the receipt, processing and forwarding of flight plans. The airspace over Germany is among the most heavily populated in the world. On any given day, more than 8,000 airplanes are moving along airways through German airspace and at airports. Controlling this dense air traffic places exceptional demands on people and technology. The key requirement for all IT services supporting DFS operations is the reliability and availability of all critical data. To ensure the availability and absolutely reliable transfer of critical data across the DFS network, and equally reliable e-mail communication between the organization and other air traffic control services, DFS relies on Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Server.
