Rautaruukki's data network has about 40 operational centres in Scandinavia and Germany. As in all networks consisting of several servers and many users, it is difficult to estimate the number of users using each server at any time period in Rautaruukki's network. Continuous changes in the number of network users, users' work places and their use of services make license purchasing difficult. Purchasing licenses becomes expensive and their administration difficult. Rautaruukki introduced NetWare in its network for the first time in 1990, and its usage has expanded ever since. In 1996-1997 GroupWise was also introduced, and during 1998 NDS directory service was put to use.
