Over the last few years, the City of Olten in northwest Switzerland has become a real "Educational Mecca." The City of Olten recognizes that Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) are now irrevocably changing the manner in which people work, communicate, and organize themselves. Under the Swiss government program for the legislative period from 2001 to 2005, the Council defined the objective of "Developing and implementing an ICT concept in city schools" and established a project committee to develop this concept and bring it to fruition. To connect all seven educational sites, Novell Silver Partner MTF Schweiz AG set up a city-wide Wide Area Network with a gigabit backbone. The heart of the network is a Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Server.
