Telecommunication is one of the fastest growing technology markets. Moreover, two areas have been strongly targeted - these fields will lead the technology evolution in the coming years - optical and wireless systems. The former will be a key governing trend to support data explosion (very high data rates), and the latter represents the next step in technology evolution - access anywhere, anytime to plethora of services. This paper presents two contributions for the conception of next generation communication systems: a plausible model for broadband wireless access and a potential technique for all-optical networks. These solutions have been studied by the authors during the past few years.
