Fresenius Medical Care is committed to providing the highest standard of patient care, improving the quality of life for patients. To achieve this goal, Fresenius Medical Care North America (FMCNA) is undertaking a three-year initiative to automate treatment workflow, improve data exchange, and deploy advanced new clinical and administrative applications. Until recently, FMCNA operated a Frame Relay network that connected each individual clinic to it headquarters in Lexington, Massachusetts, where all of the patient treatment records, billing, and administrative systems reside. The first thing they needed to do was to rebuild the infrastructure and deliver more bandwidth to each clinic. After evaluating other vendors' equipment, FMCNA chose to deploy Cisco 1841 integrated services routers.
