This paper describes the general design and environment of the result of Project Avatar - the game Three Crowns. Team Avatar, consisting of eight computer science students at Uppsala University, was founded in the fall of 2005 as one half of the 4th year project course workforce, the other half being Team A-GPS. The task to be completed was to develop a game for mobile phones running over a wireless Bluetooth network. Due to the unspecified nature of the original task and some technical issues regarding the Bluetooth architecture, the task shifted to become the development of a distributed game for mobile phones communicating through a third part, a server accessible from the Internet, as well as communicating over Bluetooth.
