The new SAS OLAP Server implements the industry standard MDX (MultiDimensional Expression) query language and a new threaded server that's designed to support many concurrent users. While there is no automatic conversion of Version 8, SAS/MDDB applications to the new server because of the different functionalities, one can use all the knowledge gained when designing the MDDBs to lay out the new cubes quickly and easily. This paper presents some guidelines and case studies for moving the MDDB applications to the next level and includes examples of how to take specific application customizations into the new SAS OLAP Server.
