TechRepublic columnist Steven Warren provides his assessment of the new Web browser war and of Internet Explorer 7.0 Beta 1 in this edition of The Hot Button.
In this edition of The Hot Button, Steven Warren explains why Firefox has become a popular Internet Explorer alternative that is being deployed by IT consultants and IT departments. However, he also offers his assessment of IE7 Beta 1 and tells why he thinks it will alter the the course of new browser war.
Steven opens this week's column by stating, "Microsoft appears to subscribe to the theory that 'The best defense is a good offense' - at least that appears to be the case in the newly-reignited Web browser wars. That's my take on the motivation behind Microsoft's release of Internet Explorer 7.0. I'm going to look at why Firefox has lit a fire under Microsoft to get serious about Web browser development again, and why, based on my testing of the IE7 beta, I think that it's quite possible IE7 will take the starch out of the Web browser war."
This column is also available as a TechRepublic article in HTML format.
