Application infrastructure configuration management is a core discipline necessary to effectively manage today's IT infrastructure. Highly-effective IT organizations often practice a common set of configuration management processes, and that's what this paper is about. The processes, policies and procedures that very-effective IT organizations use to manage application infrastructures. These represent the best practices in application infrastructure configuration management. This paper uses the term application infrastructure to mean the set of infrastructure components above the operating system such as databases, messaging servers, application servers and web servers.
