The University of California, Merced (UC Merced) is the first University of California campus to be built since 1965. In planning the University's network infrastructure, the network engineer was faced with a series of significant challenges. First of all, the solution had to provide authorized users with rapid, unrestricted access to all of the data and resources they needed while providing an extremely high level of security against hackers, worms, malware and all other forms of network attacks. To help in deciding which systems were most appropriate for the University's needs, the network engineer turned to Helios Technology Systems, a Juniper Networks reseller based in nearby Fresno, California.
