Palm Beach County is the 4th largest school district in Florida and the 8th largest in the nation. An existing web-security solution was unable to control access to "risky" websites or limit bandwidth consumption. Preventing spyware on local computers was a critical objective for IT since infections were more than local machine issues; they were network issues. The district needed a new solution that could help them meet regulatory compliance requirements, improve network performance, and control streaming and other bandwidth-intensive activities. The district deployed three high-availability Blue Coat Proxy SG appliances running Blue Coat WebFilter, Reporter, and Director.
