In recent times, the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) has been criticised for being out of touch with current technology and too IT centric for a business focused world. The library also has been widely criticised for a perceived failure to move on from a focus on operational IT issues and in particular on the creation of a Service Level Agreement (SLA). In the middle of the nineties organisations were demanding consistent, properly managed ITIL process implementations. Pink Elephant was the first to create and produce a maturity model for ITIL processes (PinkScan) based on the Carnegie-Mellon inspired Capability Maturity Model.
