Due to an enhanced customer focus in the planning, development and delivery of IT services, service-oriented IT management has become increasingly important. This paper investigates to what effect service-oriented IT management has already been put into place in European companies. Success factors for implementing service oriented IT management are investigated. Finally, the paper highlights four current trends for service-oriented IT management and further research is outlined. During the last four years, increasing interest in initiatives for the implementation and attainment of a service-oriented IT management has become evident. Accordingly a large number of models, methods and concepts were developed, intended to help guarantee service-oriented IT management. Especially the best practice framework ITIL (IT Infrastructure Library) was noticed by IT management.
