Several standards and collections of best practices are available, which prescribe how to best manage the Information Technology (IT) function of various organizations. However, only COBIT addresses the full spectrum of IT governance duties. The IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) is a series of seven books which is referred to as the only consistent and comprehensive best practice for IT service management. Although published by a governmental body, ITIL is not a standard. However, several standards publications describe the duties in a more comprehensive manner than COBIT. Thus, when implementing sound IT governance, those standards publications have to be considered and the guidelines, models and processes should be used to facilitate the implementation of COBIT.
