The Senate IT organization provides each senator and key members of their staff with BlackBerry Wireless Handhelds. While the BlackBerry is an extremely effective and reliable communications tool for e-mail, there were several desired features that were not commercially available. They wanted to make it easier to send e-mails to members of a group or committee by selecting the appropriate distribution list. They also wanted to protect sensitive information contained in e-mails stored on the BlackBerry should a device be lost or stolen. The United States Senate turned to LRW to provide a solution to these challenges. LRW developed a messaging solution that enables the BlackBerry to address e-mails to one or more distribution lists.
