Founded in 1997 to commercialise research started in conjunction with CSIRO and Macquarie University, Radiata Communications developed a high-speed broad band modem chip set compatible with the IEEE 802.11a communications standard. Comprising a digital and radio chip, the set can run at a blistering 54Mbits per second over a range of up to 75 metres using the relatively un-congested 5GHz spectrum. Bluetooth and 802.11b both use the 2.4GHz spectrum along with cordless phones, microwave ovens and baby monitors.
