With development activity under way in the retail, government/military, health care, and transportation verticals, coupled with standardization activity and other initiatives targeted at interoperability and enterprise integration of RFID hardware and software, the authors' believes a foundation is taking shape that will support material growth in investments in technology and services in this space, despite concerns about RFID hype. Ultimately, these investments should lead to improved inventory visibility and efficiency in the supply chain, which should then lead to more widespread use of RFID as the next generation of inventory management technology.
